Winter Makeup

There are so many people who dread winter for the mere reason that it brings a challenge to maintaining healthy and well-moisturizer skin. Extra care and attention is needed during the winter season, because during the cold months, the oil glands situated just below the surface of the skin tend to become relatively inactive and produce less moisture than usual. The wind and cold conditions that it brings along only adds to the dryness. With the onset of winters, your makeup also needs to go major change.

Velvety shades are the way to go for a winter woman. You need to look more glamorous and more polished during the cold months of the year. The matte look and understated shades, such as coffee, chocolate and smoky shades for eyes and berry tones for lips and cheeks, replace the fresh summer face. Gloss is in vogue again and so are our beloved fruity and spicy tones of cosmetics. In case you want to explore more about make up in winters, make use of the tips given in the following lines.

Makeup Tips For Winters
  • Use blackberry and copper color polish to darken your nails. It is perfect for the season and looks best on short, just-to-your-fingertips nails.
  • Try colored mascara like navy, burgundy, and auburn that gives lashes a subtle color and some depth as well, without looking too obvious.
  • Winters calls for more defined eyes. So, you should use a chocolate brown or charcoal liner along your upper lashes.
  • It is a good idea to opt for neutral shades of makeup, such as light browns, grays, pinks and purples.
  • If you want to draw attention to only one area of your face during winter, it is best to put emphasis on your eyes. A smoky eye look will work well during this time of year.
  • Keep your lips moisturized in order to prevent them from becoming cracked and dry. It is a good idea to apply a lip-gloss throughout the day.
  • A bit of sheen on eyes can be used too for a change, especially if you are using nude shades on your lips.
  • Either your moisturizer or your foundation should have broad-spectrum sun protection.
  • A light, matt foundation as well as a tinted powder, with a slight shimmer, look great in winters.
  • For fragrance, it is best to stick to essence of essential oils, spices and other natural aromas.
  • Smokey eyes look best in winters. For sultry effect, you can use eye shadows in cinnamon and coffee shades.
  • A sheer layer of creamy blush-on can boost up the subtle makeup look that you adopt in winters.
  • Tinted lip balms, in honey, blackberry and red currant tones, look great in the winter season.

New Year's Eve Makeup Tips From Molly Stern of CoverGirl

I recently asked Molly Stern, Makeup Artist for CoverGirl, to offer her best tips for looking absolutely fabulous on New Year’s Eve. Best part? CoverGirl is super affordable–the only thing you can’t afford is not looking completely amazing this New Year’s Eve. Ring in the New Year looking hot ladies!
“To get New Year’s Eve glam, I love the idea of creating a bold lip and adding definition to the eyes and lashes. This holiday season I’m obsessing over CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain because the stains wear beautifully and are available in fun, bright colors. I recommend ringing in the New Year in Wild Berry Wink because the shade gives your lips a healthy flush of color and the easy to use precision applicator makes the stain effortless to apply.
To help the stain wear longer and enhance the vibrant color, it’s a good idea to apply moisturizing lip balm like Nanak Lip Smoothie, available at Whole Foods, over the stain. To play up a bold lip you want to keep the rest of your look simple.
Complete your evening look by lining the eye with a shimmery, yet subtle, eyeliner. I love Shu Uemura liners; they are smooth and easy to apply, and are available in great colors. Finish off the eye with two coats of mascara. To make eyes really stand out, CoverGirl Exact Eyelights is my choice mascara because the customized shades are developed to make your natural eye color pop. The Exact brush technology also leaves your lashes long and lush for the holiday season.”
All CoverGirl products mentioned can be purchased at Drugstore.com or your local drugstore.

Top Ten Makeover Tips by KBTV’s Weekend Anchor/Reporter Ericka English

By KBTV’s Weekend Anchor/Reporter Ericka English
When thinking about a new look women mostly think of starting from the top which means changing your hair. That’s actually last on my list. I believe a true make over starts from within. That’s also the best way to be sure you don’t fall back into the same slump. If you take good care of your mind, body and soul your inner beauty will shine through.

1. Have faith – believe that you can’t make all of these changes on your own. There is a higher being that knows you better than you know yourself. Find your purpose in life – and I’m not talking about a career.
2. Work out – whether you’re trying to lose weight or love your size, working out will boost your self-confidence. Certain exercises will even improve your posture, which will make you look years younger. It’s also a great stress reliever. If you can, try to work out at the start of your day – it symbolizes that you are putting yourself first. (I saw that on Oprah!)
3. Eat Healthy – and I’m not just talking about fruits and veggies. Eating six small meals a day will boost your metabolism. You will feel younger, because you will have more energy. Also, don’t limit yourself to what you can’t eat. Treat yourself in moderation. And drink the daily amount of water recommended by your doctor.
4. A Good Rubdown – a good massage is worth the money. Most massage therapist will tell you, a nice rub down will release toxins from your body.
5. Get Pampered – soft feet and hands never hurt anyone. A pedicure will give you the confidence to put your best foot forward (pun intended.) While soft hands will wow anyone to whom you extend the right hand of fellowship (shaking hands.)
6. Go Shopping – the two words most women love to hear. TRY ON every piece of clothing you find appealing. Sometimes what looks good on the hanger doesn’t fit your body type. On the other hand, the clothes that look shapeless on the hanger may look great on your body. Don’t be afraid to go up a size if you love the piece. Some designers make their clothes smaller. If it makes you feel better buy the larger size, then rip the size tag off when you get home. Try different colors that flatter your skin tone. Choose items that accentuate your assets. Know what looks good on your body type and make sure YOU wear the clothes, don’t let the clothes wear you.
7. Clear it Up – Instead of covering up your flaws with make-up, fix them. If you have acne, shop around for the product that works best for YOU. It doesn’t always take a phone call to an infomercial to get great skin. The best products are often found at your local pharmacy. Zap acne scars with products that even skin tone. Invest in anti-aging products that meet your needs.
8. Wax On – Wax Off – get rid of unwanted facial hair (enough said.)
9. Make-Up – visit your favorite make-up counter and ask the professionals to choose colors for you that bring out your best features. Make sure you are wearing the correct foundation or powder shade. Lines of demarcation are not cute – that’s why I love mineral make-up.
10. Cut and Color – just like your make-up your haircut should compliment your best features. The same goes for your new hair color. Also be sure your highlights look natural, as if the sun kissed your hair.
